MEC LEHARI MOURNS SANTACO SECRETARY MR NAPHAKADE

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari is saddened by the sudden passing of North West SANTACO Provincial Secretary Mr Velakhe Andrew Naphakade. The report received by the Office of the MEC was that Mr Naphakade was rushed to the hospital after suffering severe headache where his body ultimately succumbed.

The industry has been a constant work in progress with challenges which the Government has focused on as MEC Lehari alludes.

“Had it not been for Covid-19 which disturbed the normal process of life as we know it, we would have had a Provincial Taxi Lekgotla three months ago. It had been in the making since last year and Mr Naphakade was part of its conception from inception”.

MEC Lehari said Mr Naphakade was at the forefront of stabilising the industry in the Province.

“He had been part of the new generation of industry leaders whose purpose was to not only stabilise the industry but formalise it as well. He was forthright and with his urbane approach, he could diffuse tension before it flares up. This, he has done on many occasions where there was volatility in the Province. He had proven in so many ways and on many occasions that industry normalisation and unity was what he yearned for”, said MEC Lehari.

Mr Naphakade worked for South African Police Services which he left 15 years ago to venture into farming. But he had already been involved in the taxi industry since 2002. Five years later in 2007 he became the chairperson of the Jouberton Taxi Organization. That was the beginning of his long journey serving in leadership of the industry in Klerksdorp culminating in becoming the SANTACO North West Provincial Secretary since four years ago.

“He was gentle and humble but didn’t droop on his conviction that the industry should be safe and standardised where safety is a constant feature. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the taxi industry. May they be comforted, may his soul rest in eternal peace. MEC said.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea”, concluded MEC Lehari as he quoted Psalm 46 verse 1 to comfort the family.

Burial of Mr Naphakade will be held on Friday, 07 August 2020 in Klerksdorp.

May His Dear Soul Rest In Peace.
